Homelink is a world leader in the manufacture of tableware using compostable plant-based resins. Homelink began studying more sustainable sources of resins in 2010. In 2012 we purchased equipment to begin producing more than 5,000 MT of biodegradable material. Today that number has increased to 100,000 MT making Homelink the largest compounder and fabricator in the world. PLA is a thermoplastic monomer derived from renewable, organic sources such as sugar. All of Homelink’s PLA offerings are 100% certified compostable in municipal composting facilities. PHA is an eco-friendly alternative to petrochemical plastics and effectively biodegrades in aerobic or anaerobic environments, such as a landfill, waste treatment facility or the ocean. The dry pulpy fibrous material that remains after crushing sugarcane is called bagasse. It is the raw material that remains after sugarcane stalks are crushed to extract their juice. With renewable growth of between 2 to 3 times per year it is a highly sustainable material choice. Sugarcane fibers degrade naturally and much faster than paper products and is considered the most environmentally friendly packaging material available making it a greener alternative to paper and wood. Homelink’s sugarcane fiber products are 100% compostable, recyclable, and always PFAS free. It is estimated that by the end of 2022 Homelink will become the largest bagasse fabricator in China.
Homelink makes a wide variety of paper products from cups to bowls to plates and the only company that produces a BPI certified paper straw. This means that both the paper and the adhesive is certified 100% compostable. Our paper straws will degrade in a composting facility within 6 weeks. The paper and adhesive is tested by independent labs and FDA approved for toxicity.
Homelink has built a complete workshop that manufactures compostable takeout bags and T-shirt bags made of a combination of PBAT and PLA. These bio-compostable bags are made in our own workshop and many retailers and restaurant chains are currently benefiting using these biodegradable bags.
Post-consumer resin (PCR) is an environmentally-friendly packaging option that many manufacturers are using in support of recycling programs, consumer demand, and to reduce their impact on landfills. PCR plastics are the recycled materials from existing PET bottles and other plastics. It is a plastic that has already been recycled and is ready to be used again. Homelink’s PCR will meet FDA Title 21 guidelines for food contact applications.
